WOODWORKING CLASSES

Since the Fall of 2011 we have once again been offering classes to woodworking enthusiasts at our studio.
We started the program off with our old standby the Small Table making class that introduces students to the core techniques of learning how to build furniture from solid wood and by that we mean quality wood - you won't find Pine around these parts
As of January 2012 we have expanded our class offerings to our current students We've started off with a Dining Table class which got underway in mid January

In the works is a structured
Open Project class that we anticipate starting up in late February or March (as with all our classes student interest gets them going) followed by a Bed making class for our intermediate level students later this Spring.

Our
Open Studio program is up and running - allowing weekday access to the facility this program is still in an early trial stage and access is currently limited.
as we get into a comfort zone we'll open the program up to a broader clientele.

If all goes as anticipated we will have a full program running later this year including many options for project style classes as well as offering studio time and space for our enthusiastic clientele.

Classes
Introduction to Woodworking
a small table making class
The intent and result of this class is to build and completely finish a table. The result of this goal is that students will be introduced to the foundation principles of solid wood furniture building. Starting from the selection and milling of raw lumber students will proceed through the design, lumber breakout, milling, joinery, assembly, sanding and finally the hand finishing of a small table.
What type and size of table you ask? well a coffee table or possibly for those with a little more confidence and background, a kitchen table. The limits are - no table larger than 48"long by 36" wide is permitted in this class.

Students per class : max. 6

Cost: class fees -$750.00 + HST for a total of $840.00
the course fee does not include the cost of lumber

While we are aware that our classes are at a higher price point than classes offered through subsidized facilities such as high schools, colleges and community centres we're confident that the level of our instruction, equipment and materials in combination with overall facilitation is of the highest caliber available.

Supplies & Materials
We will be providing all the consumable supplies required such as glue, dowels, table clips, sandpaper etc.

Rough lumber will be provided at a cost per board foot for all projects.
Students will have a choice of various North American woods from which to build their projects... the usual selection includes Local Maple, Cherry, Eastern Maple , Oak & Walnut though we tend to stock the best materials available at the moment.
Projected costs for a table 36"L x 24"W x 18"H with a 1.75" thick top would be in the range of...

Local Maple - $200-$250 / Eastern Maple - $275 - $350
/ Cherry or Walnut - $350- $500
Here are a few pics of what our students have been making

All the pictured tables have been built with a combination of Black Walnut and Local Maple
